Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI)

The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) program focuses on critical topics such as civic engagement, environment and natural resources management, and entrepreneurship and economic development. With the main aim of fostering and encouraging youth participation and leadership, the YSEALI designated YSEALI Seeds for the Future to grant small seed funds of up to USD 20,000 to innovative project proposals that tackle on four main categories: Education, Environment Protection, Civic Engagement and Economic Development. For 2015, 18 projects have been selected to be granted by YSEALI Seeds for the Future including the Our Generation 17+ which will collaborate with Urban Youth Academy in implementing the Asia Pacific Youth Exchange Program from 3 – 17 January 2016.
The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative is U.S. President Barack Obama’s signature program which aim to support and strengthen leadership of young people in Southeast Asia.
Recognizing the importance of youth in the achievement of a greater developement for ASEAN community, where 65% of people in the region are under 35 years old, the YSEALI therefore was designated to focus on supporting youth and empowering their potential to address regional issues. With 2 years of launching and committing to the development of youth in ASEAN region, the YSEALI has been identified as the supportive resource for youth to rely on opportunitites in being connected to other youth leaders, and in raising their capacities. The community of YSEALi is consisted of youth leaders from 18 to 35 years old that are active in making a different in their home countries and ASEAN region. YSEALI’s signature programmes include youth exchanges, workshops, competitions, trainings and conferences across 10 ASEAN country members and the U.S, to name a few: YSEALI Academic Fellows, YSEALI Professional Fellow, YSEALI Seeds for the Future, YSEALI Summit, etc.
YSEALI Seeds for the Future
In order to encourage young leaders to initiate solutions to solve current issues within the region, YSEALI Seeds for the Future therefore was launched yearly to endorse and grant small seed funds for most potential solution to regional issues in ASEAN country members. The seed fund grant has been supporting youth initiative for 2 years that resulted more than 40 projects on-going in 10 ASEAN country.
